Discover Lab4Physics
Here you’ll find all the information you need to understand Lab4Physics!
Tools
Use the sensors incorporated in your smartphone or tablet and convert it into a lab instrument that can empower your students to learn through experimentation! Use the accelerometer, camera, and microphone to measure, graph, and analyze physics phenomena in real time.
Accelerometer
Camera
Sonometer
Speedometer
Speedometer Tool
Allows you to measure the time it takes for an object to reach different positions. The positions are entered in the tool in order to measure the time it takes for the object in motion to pass each position. All you have to do is touch the screen each time the object in motion reaches a position. Once you’ve ended the measurement,v the speedometer tool will allow you to view position vs. time, velocity vs. time, and a data table which can be exported in .csv format in order to analyze the results.
Accelerometer Tool
Measures the value of acceleration the mobile device experiences and shows this information as a triad of values (Ax, Ay, Az), displayed on three axes X, Y, Z). This sensor measures the acceleration in meters per second squared (ms2) with respect to time, displaying this data in real time on your mobile device. The accelerometer tool displays a graph of acceleration vs. time in three axes. This data can be exported in .csv format.
Camera Tool
Allows you to record movement in two dimensions using your devices rear-facing camera. After capturing the motion, use a point of reference with a known length within the camera frame and set X, Y axis, then track the falling object frame by frame. The Lab4Physics camera tool allows you to visualize position vs. time, velocity vs. time, acceleration vs. time, and a data table with experimental data exportable in .csv format.
Sonometer Tool
Allows you to record movement in two dimensions using your devices rear-facing camera. After capturing the motion, use a point of reference with a known length within the camera frame and set X, Y axis, then track the falling object frame by frame. The Lab4Physics camera tool allows you to visualize position vs. time, velocity vs. time, acceleration vs. time, and a data table with experimental data exportable in .csv format.

Methodology
Our experiments were designed to foster learning through inquiry. Our lab reports and experimental activities have a structure that helps develop scientific thinking and key abilities for student success--both in their classes and in the 21st century workforce.
What is inquiry-based learning? In inquiry-based learning, students are provided with opportunities investigate a real world problem, to search for possible solutions, make observations, ask questions, test out ideas, think creatively, and use their intuition.
That’s why our experiments follow a structure that invites students to think.
